Curriculum Vitae

A Curriculum Vitae (CV) is similar to a resume, but is more detailed and formatted differently.  A CV is a record of your professional accomplishments which will grow as you develop in your medical career.

Creating a well-organized CV early in medical school is very important and allows you to keep a record of your experiences and accomplishments. Throughout your medical school tenure, there will be opportunities for clinical and research experiences, so having your CV ready allows you to apply to these and to request letters of recommendation from faculty. The Student Senate Career Advisory and Mentoring Committee partners with the Office of Student Affairs to host annual CV Clinics, where students can learn how to construct a professional CV and have them reviewed by faculty and staff. Click here to link to the Student Senate Career Advisory Committee page, which provides sample CVs and information on constructing CVs and personal statements.

There are also other samples which you can review on the AAMC’s Careers in Medicine website. You will find them in the “Finding a Residency” drop down menu.
